YOUR
CHEAT SHEET
TO BEAUTIFUL
WEDDING VOWS
Dear person reading this,
You are in such a special (and stressful) time of your life, and preparing your wedding vows is one of the most important items on your to-do list. You only get to say your vows once (no pressure!), and organizing everything you want to say so that it flows right is harder than you thought it would be.
We've all seen those viral wedding videos of couples so clearly in love as they exchange their vows with tears in their eyes. Their vows seem to be a perfect mix of poetry, humor, and personal touches. How did they do it? How can you do it?
If it's okay with you, we'd love to ease some of your worries and get you closer to your dream wedding vows. We'll start with our special cheat sheet. This is our gift to you. If you want help writing out your ideas, find out more here.
LET’S GET TO IT.
1. WRITE LIKE YOURSELF.
Even though vows are known to be romantic, write like you. If you're not the poetic type, don't write vows filled with things you would never say. Be the person your partner loves.
2. ADD IN A JOKE.
To lighten the mood and take some nerves off yourself and your partner, add in a tasteful joke or two. This is a great way to include the personality of your relationship in your vows.
3. KEEP IT SHORT.
In about 3 minutes, highlight important moments from your relationship, let your partner know what you love about them, and share your dreams for your lives ahead. Your vows are not the time to recap your entire love story from the moment you two met.
4. INCLUDE A QUOTE.
Include your favorite quote, saying, or scripture that reminds you of your relationship and the love you share with your partner to make your vows more personal.
5. TELL YOUR FIRST IMPRESSION.
We all had a first impression of our partners before they became our partners. Tell yours what you first thought about them and what you think about them now.
6. GIVE EXPLANATIONS.
There are two important points to cover in your wedding vows: 1. why you want to marry your partner and 2. the promises you want to make to them at the start of this new journey together. Explain both.
7. HIGHLIGHT THE FUTURE.
Let your partner know what you look forward to in this next chapter with them, and share your hopes for your relationship in the coming years.
8. SHARE THEM IN PRIVATE.
Your vows are for you and your partner. That's it. If you want to exchange wedding vows but don't like the idea of doing so in front of a lot of people, you can do what many couples do which is choose to exchange your vows privately.
9. PRINT THEM OUT.
Printing out your wedding vows prevents technical difficulties and lessens the chances you lose your spot while you read. Having your vows written on paper also doubles as a keepsake from your special day.
10. READ OFF THE PAPER.
Reading your vows from the paper keeps you on track despite the nerves you may feel in the moment. Even with tears in your eyes, you will be able to tell your partner how much you love them exactly how you planned.
